Our proofing tools have been the result of a 19 year effort. Our work on proofing tools started in 1986 and our first product (Spell Checker) was finished in 1989. This product was licensed by MoonStar in 1990 to be included in their best selling word processor at that time. In 1991 we licensed the speller checker to Infinite to be bundled with every Apple Macintosh sold in Turkey. Infinite later included the spell checker in a stand alone program call Turkuvaz. In 1992 we licensed the spell checker and the hyphenator to WordPerfect (now Corel) to be included in WordPerfect 5 and then WordPerfect 6. In 1993 Microsoft licensed our spell checker and hyphenator to be included in every Microsoft product sold in Turkey. In 1997, we extended our licensing agreement to include the thesaurus module. In 2002, we extended our licensing agreement to include the grammar checker, wordbreaker and thesaurus module.

The agglutinative nature of Turkish deems Turkish very different from most other languages. In Turkish new words can be generated by adding suffixes to a limited number of root words. For example in Turkish "kitapçidaysan" (if you are in the library) is a single word. "robotlastiramadiklarimizdansiniz" (You are one of the people we could not turn into a robot) is another single word.

Even though the agglutinative nature of Turkish makes the language very powerful, it makes the life of proofing tool developers very difficult. Developing a spell checker for Turkish turned out to be a difficult, tedious and error prone process. It took us 3 years to finish our first product and 19 years to make it perfect.

Now you can download these tools for free evaluation. These tools work with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Works, Publisher, Outlook, Outlook Express and FrontPage. They are totally integrated into the products and you don't have to leave the application or switch to another application to run these tools. Just select spelling (or hyphenation or thesaurus) from the Microsoft application you are using and our tools will do the rest.
